Ever wondered where your food comes from? Well, wonder no more! Santa Barbara County’s Farm Day is happening this Saturday, August 24, 2024, and KCLU’s Caroline Faraday visited Dare 2 Dream Farms to dish up what guests can expect.
Faraday got the scoop on Dare 2 Dream Farms’ reason for participating in the Santa Barbara County Farm Day for the first time this year, with several sold-out times for their tours.
“Our kids are super lucky. Access to land is one of the biggest barriers for people who even are interested in starting their own farm and raising their family on a rural piece of property, so they are really lucky,” said Megan Raff, Co-Owner & Founder of Dare 2 Dream Farms.
“We do like to extend that same opportunity to kids that live, especially here locally.”
Farm Day is presented by SEEAG, a non-profit with a mission to educate the community about food, agriculture, and nutrition through hands-on learning, and it’s a FREE chance to get up close and personal with the farmers growing your food. Over 15 farms, ranches, and agricultural organizations from Santa Maria, Santa Ynez Valley, Orcutt, Lompoc and Gaviota are participating for the 2024 event, and the cost is completely free to the public.
SEEAG’s mission is to educate students and the greater community about the farm origins of our food and agriculture’s contribution to our nutritional well-being through hands-on classroom and outdoor experiential S.T.E.M. based learning. They founded Ventura County Farm Day in 2013 to reach more of their community, which has grown into a community wide, FREE, and family-friendly, annual event.
Caroline and Megan dished up more of Dare 2 Dream Farms’ passion and commitment to sustainable farming and bringing fresh, healthy food to our community, and even heard from visiting guests from the Los Angeles area who had come to the farm straight from the train station.
